In March 2015 I visited Hokkaido where I spent 2 mornings at Lake Kussharo, photographing the Whooper Swans which migrate from Siberia to spend the winter at there. Although the lake is completely frozen, a small corner remains ice free where a hot spring enters it. Here the swans congregate in good numbers and provide an unforgettable spectacle.
