Green-winged Orchid
Marden Meadow, Kent.
Again, the fine spring resulted in an early show this year. The meadow was at its very best with many thousands of plants in flower, showing the usual colour variability in this species. Most were in shades of purple, but mauve, pink and even white spikes were in evidence.
We normally hear and sometimes see Cuckoo at this site but not this year. A singing Turtle Dove was welcome however.
